D99 repair

Just got a D99 and try to fix it.

After power on and press play button, spindle spin, laser head get light and focus, sled motor no movement.
Try to move laser head by rotating sled motor gear by hand but it's quite tight.

Plan to replace leaked cap on board. Just saw 1 DIP cap. How many caps need to replace?

Any advise please.

Thanks

The famous middle gear for the sled motor is sitting on the brass pin which turned bad over the years. This gear must be removed (use scalpel blade to pop up the washer keeping it in place) and cleaned, brass pin polished and oiled.
Over the last 5 weeks I restored three D-90 (same as D-99 for our purposes) and 50% of SMD caps were dead, all caps for the power supply were 20-40% lower than stated.
Surprisingly, three out of three C408 caps were dead (220uF, 4V)

Good comment! I'll post the restoration of one D9, one D99 in these days.

I had the same exact issue. A squirt of CRC electronic lube down the spindle motor did the trick. Worked it back and forth a while. Plugged it in and fixed!

It would turn by hand, but very hard. You could see the motor trying to move. Works like new now.
